Complex intervention research for families with prior gestational diabetes mellitus

Ugeskr Læger 2018;180:V03180168

Women with prior gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) have a seven-fold increased risk of developing Type 2 diabetes. There are currently no systematic initiatives in Denmark to ensure prevention of Type 2 diabetes in this target group.
To address the missed opportunity, we suggest applying complex intervention research and participatory methods to develop a coherent healthcare pathway during pregnancy and post-partum, which systematically supports women with prior GDM and their families as well as strengthens their capacity to make healthy choices in everyday life.
