Periostal avulsion of m. vastus medialis in a triathlete during competition
Periostal avulsion of m. vastus medialis is a very rare injury. To our knowledge, it has not previously been described, and there is no treatment algorithm. A 32-year-old male pro­fessional triathlete experienced this type of injury during a final sprint in a competition. He achieved a good functional result after treatment with an optimal rehabilitation regimen, and approximately four months after the injury he won a medal in a major international event.
