Survival of Danish patients with malignant melanoma shows significant regional variation

Using data from the Danish Melanoma Database this paper describes survival of melanoma patients in relation to their region of residence and socioeconomic status. It documents substantial differences in mortality risk between the five administrative regions. Based on underlying variation in tumour stage and thickness, the authors conclude that the observed differences most likely reflect different levels of diagnostic activity in these regions rather that the treatment itself.
