Drug dosage in obese children
The prevalence of obesity in children is increasing rapidly worldwide. Obese children have a higher use of medicinal products than their normal-weight peers. Several general physiological alterations associated with obesity have been described. However, the impact of these alterations on drug metabolism and its consequences for drug dosing in children remains largely unknown. Pharmacokinetic studies are of outmost importance in order to avoid undertreatment, adverse effects or even toxicity.
