Pharmacological treatment of chronic non-cancer pain
19% of the grown-up Danish population suffer from a chronic pain condition. Most patients are treated by general practitioners (GPs), and only a smaller group need specialist treatment. This article goes through the pharmacological possibilities available with a special focus on treatment by GPs. The main pharmacological treatment is tricyclic antidepressants and gabapentinoids. If opioids are needed, long acting drugs are preferred.
