Predatory publicing is a threat against the quality of medical literature
Transition from paper to online access has changed our way to find and access scientific articles. Open access (OA)allows to read/obtain full online articles for free. From OA a speculative business model has emerged: predatory publishing (PP). These publishers e-mail spam researchers to solicit submissions, offering little/no peer review, demanding high publication fees. PP exploit researchers and faculty members under pressure to expand publication lists, threatening/damaging medical literature. We discuss OA and PP and potential preventive measures hereof.
